Dr. Barbara Oakley is back for part 2!

"Going Deeper into How Neuroscience Is Changing What We Know about Learning"

This workshop takes instructors deeper into how the brain learns. We’ll explore what it means from a neural perspective to do “active learning,” and also consider how to balance active learning against direct instruction approaches—all of which involve the latest insights about what’s most important in effective teaching. Along with active exercises, we will discuss the effect size of different instructional interventions; how to sniff out educational fads;  evolutionary primary versus evolutionary secondary material and their relationship with student versus teacher centered learning; and the role of the declarative versus the procedural systems in helping students learn more effectively.

Barbara is also excited to share with LSAC that she has launched her latest MOOC, Uncommon Sense Teaching (https://www.coursera.org/learn/uncommon-sense-teaching).
