Developing a Diverse Peer Coaching Team
to Serve a Diverse Student Body

LSAC Webinar

Internationalization is a growing priority in many Canadian post-secondary institutions. This requires culturally relevant academic support services for a diverse population of International students and recent immigrants in order to achieve strong student retention and success. How can this be achieved?

The purpose of this workshop is to:

  • Discuss the need for connecting international and new immigrant students with learning and other support services in culturally relevant ways

  • Outline a process for engaging international tutors in identifying learning needs

  • Identify the benefits of engaging international peer tutors/mentors in the facilitation of academic skills workshops

  • Present a model for training experienced peer tutors as workshop facilitators

Presenters:  Lyn Benn, Director, Student Development, and Christina Page, Learning Strategies, Kwantlen Polytechnic University
