A Holistic Perspective of Student Success and Links to Practice, Your Role, and Learning Outcomes

Date: Wednesday, March 23, 2016 @ 1:30 pm (ET) / 10:30 am (PT)
Duration: 55 minutes
Presenter: Jackie Hamilton, University of Guelph

This session will explore the following questions:

  • How does your role/program/organization influence or impact student success?
  • Does your role view student success from a holistic perspective? (Access, Persistence/Retention; Engagement/Involvement; Performance; and Graduation/Acquisition)
  • What activities or tools does your program engage in, and how can they be mapped to learning outcomes in a way that assesses your organization’s role in student success?

Participants will engage in critical reflection about their role, and work with others to examine how their context views student success. They will be able to draw conclusions about the success factors their program highlights, and those that are less emphasized. A facilitated discussion will also occur about what activities your program engages in and how they could be linked to learning outcomes and a holistic student success perspective. The presenters will also share information about their own program goals and activities.
