The December 6, 2013 LSAC Eastern Region Conference PACE – Passionate and Caring Educators, will be held at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario. We are very excited to be hosting this event and look forward to greeting and collaborating with our peers from across the region for a day of learning, sharing, and inspiration.
Conference Proposals:
We are now accepting conference proposals for consideration. Presentations can be based on practice, research, focus on professional development, or be a facilitated discussion. New this year, we will also be offering a ‘speed meeting’ activity where participants can go to a variety of information tables for 20 minute mini presentations and walk away with new ideas and resources to add to their LS Practice.
Any and all proposal ideas are welcome; we invite you to share what you and your institution are doing regarding program assessment, essential skills training, etc. For those of us who did not attend our national conference in May, there were many exciting topics including: Plugged in or Tuned Out – How is Technology Changing Teaching and Learning, E-tutoring: From Concept to Reality, Engaging Students In and Beyond the Classroom – Mutual Commitment, Embedding Learning Strategies into First Year University Courses, etc. The possibilities are endless!

Keynote Speaker:
Dr. Kent MacDonald is the seventh president of Algonquin College.
Dr. MacDonald has held a variety of positions at Algonquin College, including Vice President, Academic, Vice President, Student Services and Development and Dean of the School of Business. Prior to joining the College, Dr. MacDonald held senior leadership positions in both the private and not-for-profit sectors and was an educator in the elementary, secondary and post-secondary systems in Ottawa, Nova Scotia and New Zealand.
Dr. MacDonald earned his Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He holds a Master Degree in Education (Administration) from St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, an MBA from the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Ontario and a BSc from St. Francis Xavier University.
